The first meeting of the 2021 CSBP Coastal Connections Challenge Youth Reference Group (CCCC YRG) took place online.
An important feature of the CSBP Coastal Connection Challenge is involvement and engagement with young people who can take the lead on coastal environment conservation, now and in the future.
The 2021 CCCC Youth Reference Group brings back some members from the 2020 group, plus new members, and we were able to host our first meeting in mid-December using WebEx video conferencing.
It was a good session for learning more about each other, what we want to achieve as a group and how the 2021 CSBP Coastal Connections Challenge is going to be planned, what will happen at the two-day event and how we’re going to follow up with our coastal projects.
It was great to have Alexis Gilmartin, from CSBP, join us. Given the rapidly approaching Christmas break, some of our group had work commitments and couldn’t join us but we are looking forward to catch everyone at our next meeting, which will be a field trip to Penguin Island.
We think this will be the perfect opportunity to see the importance of protecting local coastal and marine biodiversity above and below the waves.
